Meet our Artists: Korrie Dawn Iablonski

Korrie Dawn Iablonski is an oil painter based in Peace River, Alberta, creating representational florals, still lifes, and figurative works inspired by connection to objects, moments, memories, and the people who give them meaning.

Korrie has always found a quiet beauty in still life and flowers. Growing up in the Peace Country with parents who had green thumbs, flowers have been a constant presence throughout her life. Gardening has since become a hobby of her own, and her garden and local flower farms have become an ongoing source of inspiration. Painting flowers allows her to preserve a particular moment in time and explore the memories and feelings attached to it.

Her relationship with art began early. As a child, Korrie and her dad would draw wildlife from calendars and compare their drawings. At school, she was often the student who could be found drawing instead of completing her assignments. After graduating, she explored photography and opened a portrait and boudoir photography studio in Peace River before spending several years working in veterinary medicine. Eventually, she found her way back to painting, discovering how naturally creating art fit into her life.

Today, Korrie's work is driven by a desire to create a sense of connection. She hopes her paintings evoke nostalgia, calm, curiosity, and beauty, inviting viewers to slow down and consider the stories held within familiar objects and quiet moments. Her current series, Wished I Used It More, explores romantic still life scenes featuring inherited and collected objects in use. The series grew from conversations with grandparents and others who expressed that they wished they had used their fine china and treasured collections more often rather than saving them for special occasions. Korrie reimagines these objects within scenes from her own life, breathing new life into things that might otherwise remain tucked away.

As she continues to develop her artistic voice, Korrie hopes to participate in more exhibitions, connect with collectors, and build a strong and varied body of work. Most of all, she simply wants to create.

Korrie believes that being involved in the local art community is an important part of cultivating culture and connection. Through the Peace River Art Hub, she hopes to contribute to the creative community, encourage and mentor others, and help beautify an already beautiful place.
